Turned up here on a little detour during my Coast to Coast hike, found a great traditional pub with original fire burning, and it turns out its also a Thai Restaurant, so i had a Thai Green Curry and a couple of nice real ales and it was amazing, top quality service too and even had a chat with a friendly local and manager about my trip, from the first Coast to Coaster hiker of 2025, great place!
Carlton is a wonderful little village, very pretty and at the foot of the moors. The Blackwell ox is a great pub and serves fantastic Thai food. The only snag is that it’s not much of a drinkers pub, tables are often only available if you’re dining with them.
Staying locally and was within walking distance so decided to give it a try. Bit dubious as I have several allergies, but they couldn't have been more accommodating. The food was absolutely top notch; well presented, fresh, tasty and piping hot. The service was friendly and attentive despite how busy they were. Book in advance to avoid disappointment, you definitely won't be disappointed!! Highly recommend
First time visiting here and I will definitely be back! The food was incredible, really tasty and huge portions. Between the 4 of us we had green curry, Pad Thai and chicken satay and we all really enjoyed it. The staff were so lovely as well, really friendly and always smiling, nothing was too much trouble for them. Can’t wait for my next visit!

Been going to this pub since I was a child, changed hands since then!! It’s in a beautiful village called Carlton. Now does Thai food which is very good, this place is always busy, did try to book a table a few days before but was fully booked, we stopped off for a drink and sat outside the front of the pub. Food still looks amazing main meals are about 15 plus but it’s good servings and good quality. Will definitely return as I have good memories of this place, next time I will book a table well in advance, would definitely recommend a visit.
Had a fabulous week break. The village and area is stunning. The only negative is the size of the fridge/freezer it's way too small for a week and had to throw some of our food away.
